The French rookie finishes second in an exciting Catalan GP. PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team claimed a remarkable first podium in only its seventh MotoGP after a fabulous performance from Fabio Quartararo in the Catalan GP. Quartararo made his debut appearance on the premier class rostrum with a sensational second place at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, just twelve days after surgery on his right forearm to alleviate arm pump. Team-mate Franco Morbidelli was running in the top ten when he crashed out of the race with eight laps remaining.

Quartararo, who started from pole, dropped seven positions at the start but was soon to work back up the order. The French rider showed his great race pace and composure to regain the lost ground and prevail in a thrilling battle for second place. The 20-year-old claimed his first podium in MotoGP in only his - and the team“™s - seventh race in the class, and is now 7th in the overall standings with 51 points.

The Grand Prix of Catalunya, seventh round in the 2019 MotoGP World Championship, turned into a bittersweet affair for the Mission Winnow Ducati team. On the one hand, Danilo Petrucci conquered his third consecutive podium after finishing an intense, hard-fought race in third position under the checkered flag, while Andrea Dovizioso was involved in a crash during the second lap that forced him to retire while he was in second position.

After a blistering start from P5 on the grid, Dovizioso took the lead entering turn 1 to set the pace at the front within a group of six riders. Unfortunately, the Italian was hit by Lorenzo's bike during the second lap while entering turn 10, an accident that involved four riders in total and forced them all to retire. Petrucci, who was just a few meters behind his teammate in that moment, thus gained second position and he then engaged in a close battle, first with Rins then with Quartararo, for a place on the podium. Petrucci, coming off a third-place finish at Le Mans and a fantastic win at Mugello, confirmed his positive momentum to take third place.

Marc Marquez #93 Team Honda Repsol HRC 1st “I chose the soft rear to try and push in the beginning and to try to not overheat the tyre but to try to be constant and fast. All of the Repsol Honda Team did a really good job this weekend; we worked hard and prepared well for the race. The team told me something had happened to Dovi, so I just kept pushing and focusing on my own race. We had the perfect strategy regardless and I want to thank all the fans who came out. Gracias! It's always special when you can celebrate winning together with your brother, Alex rode well this weekend!“

Fabio Quartararo #20 Team Yamaha Petronas 2rd “I“™m very happy with what we“™ve achieved today especially as it was a very hard race. We made our best start this year, since I only dropped two positions. Then I made a mistake at Turn 4, losing another four positions, and I was a little further back! Nevertheless, I found myself in the fight for the podium and a few laps from the end I managed to get into second and push. Thanks to adrenalin of fighting for the podium - and the medicine - my arm didn“™t trouble me so much in the race. In the final laps my arm started to hurt a lot, but the reward of being on the podium is much greater than that. Twelve days ago I was undergoing an operation, and now I“™m on the podium. Since the European races have begun, we have been very fast; this weekend the worst result in a session was second. The pace we have is very good, but we have to continue working as we have done so far. I want to thank the team for the opportunity they have given me and all the work they do. I am very happy to have achieved the first podium for PETRONAS Yamaha SRT.“

Danilo Petrucci #9 Mission Winnow Ducati 3rd "I'm very happy with this podium. For sure, without the incident during the second lap it would have been harder to seize this result and I'm very sorry for Andrea, who lost a great chance to shine today. I tried to stay with Márquez but it wasn't possible, and Rins and Quartararo were also very fast. With Alex, we passed each other many times and once he even hit me on the right side but I was able to reclaim the position quite quickly. Then, when Fabio passed me, I just tried to stay with him and pull away from the pack. We scored the best possible result today. After three podiums in a row, we're close to third position in the championship: we need to keep the momentum going at Assen."
